Ohio’s commercial and residential building codes are based on international model building codes and are adopted for use in Ohio through an open public process.
The new 2019 Residential Code of Ohio based on the 2018 International Residential Code with Ohio amendments is effective July 1, 2019 and can be viewed here.
Ohio law prohibits Commerce from licensing individuals who’ve been convicted of certain criminal offenses. The law requires Commerce to provide a list of those convictions to the public. Read that list here, and request a pre-determination to see if your conviction disqualifies you.
