Geoff Eaton was appointed Superintendent of the Division of Industrial Compliance in March 2019. He has over 33 years of experience in building design and construction and 26 years as a chief building official and plans examiner.
Eaton began his career with the Division of Industrial Compliance in 1998 as a plans examiner. Two years later, he became chief of the Division’s Bureau of Building Code Compliance. In September 2017, Eaton was promoted to Deputy Superintendent of the Division and one year later, served as Interim Superintendent. Moving the Department toward streamlined, fully electronic processes is one of Eaton’s highest priorities.
Prior to his time with Commerce, Eaton was the Chief Building Official for the City of Mansfield, and also practiced as an architect in the private sector for approximately eight years.
Making the building department part of the design team early in the process is one of Eaton’s most important concepts that he promotes to both stakeholders and staff. Eaton has a B.S. in architecture from The Ohio State University and received his Certified Public Manager designation from the John Glenn School of Public Affairs.
The Division of Industrial Compliance serves Ohio’s citizens, workers and industrial components. To ensure a safe environment and improve the quality of life for Ohioans, the Division approves construction plans, oversees maintenance and inspects items varying from buildings to bedding, while creating a job-friendly environment.
